encouraging and equipping the people of God in bearing fruit to the glory of God
Discerning Hearts Radio Theatre
Hello! Welcome to our studio!
Here at Discerning Hearts Radio Theatre our love of story, music, and drama meet as we produce audio dramas for the whole family to enjoy!
Join the journey as we bring each story to life through dramatic storytelling and original music. Be transported into another time and place, rich with biblical truth and the hand of God at work in the lives of men, who, you just might find, are very like yourself.
It’s 1849, and as young Dr. Stephen Winston struggles to understand a disruption to his life plans, he is allured by the gold fields of California. Refusing to face his true motives, he leaves his brother’s warnings behind to join the rush and start his first practice in the mining camps, where the miners’ search for gold collides with his inner turmoil. Why does his gold-struck fellow traveler always rub him the wrong way? Will a girl’s prayer for her sister ever be answered? Can anything change the heart of a crime-hardened young miner before it’s too late? And what will a boy’s questions reveal about Stephen’s own heart?
Fool’s Gold takes you on a journey into the mining camps where thieves threaten to steal more than gold, and often don’t take the form we expect.
Why fool’s gold?
Fool’s gold is a nickname for iron pyrite, a mineral that looks somewhat like gold and has at times been confused for the real thing. Although deceptively similar to gold, pyrite has no value and those who collect it will end up disappointed. In the same way, riches in this world look attractive and many people seek after them, not realizing that they are chasing a fantasy of little worth. The real treasure is found in Christ, and once people set their sights on Him, the riches of this world become no more than fool’s gold in light of eternal treasure.
Meet the Crew!
Jacob Herbel is the producer and director of Discerning Hearts Radio Theatre. He calls the shots, runs the mics, and tells everyone when and where they need to be, but his favorite place is behind the microphone.
When he’s not in the studio, Jake works as an accountant, challenges other young men in their walk with Christ, and accepts any opportunity to lead worship on the piano or guitar.
Trevor Penner is our music composer and audio engineer. He welcomes a challenge to increase his skills and excellence, and keeps us all on track.
He tunes pianos for his day job, and is a skilled pianist.
Karina Herbel is our scriptwriter and graphic designer, and handles correspondence behind the scenes.
Besides writing, her favorite place to be is at her easel, capturing a shadow of the Creator through every form of art she can – unless she’s with her growing number of nieces and nephews or singing with her siblings.
